MEDICATION MONITORING

 NSAID Minichems

  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (or NSAID’s)  are dispensed to treat pain and inflammation
  • Some pets may be on them short term (for an acute injury), or long term (for chronic pain such as arthritis).
  • Regular bloodwork is needed to dose medication properly and prevent side effects
  • Pets receiving these medications MUST have blood work done to make sure that their liver and kidneys are healthy.
  • There are very rare effects on the liver and kidneys that need to be screened

Is Your Pet Taking Metacam or Previcox?

Regular blood work is required for any pets that are on seizure/thyroid/diabetic medications:

  • Phenobarbitol and/or Potassium Bromide for seizures
  • Tapazole (Methimazole) or L-Thyroxine for thyroid disorders

Dose Properly to prevent Side-Effects

  • Medication requirements can change overtime.
  • Blood levels of these drugs must be checked yearly to make sure that your pet is on the appropriate dosage.
  • If any adjustment to the dosage is made than blood work needs to be rechecked with-in 4-6 weeks.
